opening slot in trouble

Katich is in red-hot form for New South Wales in the Pura Cup and could be a surprise inclusion in the hosts' squad should Hayden be ruled out after injuring his hamstring during the controversial second Test in Sydney. Hayden was selected in the 12-man squad to face India but national selection panel chairman Andrew Hilditch revealed the opener would have scans prior to the match to ensure he was fit to face India. However, should Hayden not make it, Jaques believes either Katich or Western Australian opener Chris Rogers could be handy replacements.
If someone else is called in they will be welcomed with open arms and we'll look to get off to another good start in Perth.Chris has had a couple of really good seasons and Simon Katich is in some great form too. Kato's averaging over 100 and I think he's in the form of his life. He'd do a good job if he was called back into the team. Chris has done well at A level and Pura Cup and got 60 in the tour match so he's got runs at the right time. However, Jaques was quick to point out that he would rather have his regular opening partner in Hayden down the other end at Perth's WACA ground.
